Ottawa/Gatineau has six climbing gyms, the second-highest concentration in Ontario after Toronto. Three are bouldering-only. Two offer bouldering with auto-belays. One is full-service with rope climbing. Here is how they compare.

Altitude Gym Gatineau
35 Saint-Raymond Blvd, Gatineau. $22 day pass.
The flagship Altitude location, operating since 2010 in a converted church. The only Altitude gym offering rope climbing: over 100 top-rope and lead routes with walls reaching 45 ft (the tallest in the Ottawa/Gatineau region). Also has 6,000 sq ft of bouldering, a dozen auto-belays, a MoonWall training room, and an outdoor bouldering park with 45+ problems. The Clip 'N Climb theme park area offers 34 themed challenges for families.
Best for: Climbers who want roped climbing in the region.
Coyote Rock Gym
1737B St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa. $22 day pass.
Ottawa's original climbing gym, established in 1992. Over 17,000 sq ft with 40+ top-rope walls, lead walls with overhung roofs, and five dedicated bouldering areas. MoonBoards, campus boards, hangboards, and spray wall. Free intro belay lessons for all new climbers. No auto-belays.
The facility has an old-school, community-driven atmosphere. If you prefer gyms with history and character over sleek modern builds, Coyote is your place.
Best for: Experienced rope climbers. The top-rope and lead selection is the strongest in Ottawa proper.
Bouldering with Auto-Belays
Altitude Gym Kanata
501 Palladium Dr, Kanata. $22 day pass.
The largest Altitude location at approximately 40,000 sq ft. Over 13,500 sq ft of bouldering walls with 250+ problems. Also has 30 ft auto-belay routes in "The Quarry" family zone, one of Canada's largest Ninja Warrior obstacle courses, augmented reality climbing, a MoonBoard, and the ALT Cafe. No lead or top-rope.
Best for: Families, beginners, and boulderers in the west end of Ottawa.
Bouldering Only

The newest gym in the region (opened 2024) and the cheapest. 16,700 sq ft total with 4,200 sq ft of climbing surface. Tension Board 2, two Kilter Boards, and a spray wall. A fully equipped fitness centre is included with your day pass. The vegetarian cafe and hammock lounge area set it apart. Near uOttawa and Carleton campuses.
Best for: Students, fitness-oriented climbers, and anyone who wants a modern facility at the lowest price.
Altitude Gym Orleans
265 Centrum Blvd, Orleans. $22 day pass.
The newest Altitude location (2023). Bouldering-exclusive with Canada's first 16x12 Kilter Board, a Grasshopper Board, MoonBoard, and a 6,000 sq ft training area. The ALT Cafe serves craft beer and wine. Memberships include access to all three Altitude locations.
Best for: East-end Ottawa boulderers and training-focused climbers.
Bloc 9.81
79 Blvd de la Gappe, Gatineau. $22 day pass.
The gym known for problem freshness. New openings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a full gym rotation every 2 to 3 weeks. An on-site bistro serves craft beer, kombucha, wraps, and smoothies. Monthly themed "Full Moon" events draw the community together. Outdoor bouldering park in warmer months.
Best for: Climbers who get bored with the same problems. The rotation speed here is unmatched in Ontario.
