Lead climbing is the most demanding style of indoor climbing. You clip quickdraws as you ascend, with the real possibility of a fall before the next clip. Ontario has 19 gyms offering lead climbing. Here are the standouts.
The Tallest Walls
Gravity Hamilton: 50 ft. The tallest indoor climbing in Ontario. A massive lead wall overhangs at 40 degrees. 57 separately roped climbs, each 6 ft wide. If you want the most vertical real estate in the province, this is it. Call for day pass pricing.
Hub Climbing Mississauga: 49 ft. The famous "Dragon" wall. Markets itself as Canada's largest climbing park at 40,000 sq ft. Lead certification from Hub is required (does not transfer from other gyms).
Altitude Gym Gatineau: 45 ft. The only Altitude location with full rope climbing. Over 100 routes. The tallest walls in the Ottawa/Gatineau metro. Walltopia surfaces.

Getting Lead Certified
Most gyms require a lead certification test before you can lead climb. The test typically involves demonstrating proper clipping technique, lead belaying skills, and falling practice. Some gyms accept certifications from other facilities; others do not. Always check before visiting.
